MIRROR
MIRROR is a music and video performance project created by Thomas Anselmi. Formed in 2003, the project is based in Los Angeles, California and Vancouver, Canada.
Formerly the singer for Copyright and Slow, Thomas Anselmi, created MIRROR as a vehicle for his multimedia vision. He spent three years assembling MIRROR's self titled debut album, which he produced without record-company involvement. While working on the album, he worked in tandem on a stage show that incorporated live video production and multiple cameras to fully realize his vision for the project.
[edit] Album
The MIRROR album, which was released in 2009, is a departure from Anslemi's previous punk and alt rock work, being a semi-orchestral, cinematic soundscape. Anselmi says he was influenced by the way David Lynch used music in his films, and by the aesthetics of pop music and television variety shows, particularly German Schlager. [1].
The album was produced by former Grapes of Wrath band member Vincent Jones, a fellow Canadian musician whose résumé as a studio musician and performer includes albums by Dave Gahan, Sarah McLachlan and Morrisey. Anselmi and Jones were able to secure a stunning performance from Depeche Mode singer Gahan for MIRROR's lead track, "Nostalgia.". Additional performers and collaborators include chanteuse Laure-Elaine, teen actress Frances Lawson, Legendary Warhol actor Joe Dallesandro, painter/actor Ronan Boyle, synthesist Phil Western, long time Bowie pianist Mike Garson, guitarist Knox Chandler, media artist and musician Haig Armen, and film director Sean Starke.
